Īccording to maesters, the Summer Islands are by and large a peaceful place. Each swan ship has a complement of red archers wielding goldenheart bows. Koj has been the main center of shipbuilding in the islands since the time of Malthar Xaq thousands of years ago, with three-quarters of all swan ships being built there. The Summer Isles are known for their swan ships, which were first designed by Xanda Qo. Aside from dragonbone, the best bows come from the goldenheart tree which are only found on the Summer Isles. The isles produce some of the best archers in the known world, and their special bows have a longer range than most others, giving their merchant boats added defense against pirates. The Summer Islanders traditionally utilized long thrusting spears, short stabbing spears, slings, wooden shields, and little armor. Some descendants of the Rhoynar live on the Isle of Women. Abducted islanders have been forced to fight in the fighting pits of Slaver's Bay. Some Summer Islanders have become mercenary bowmen or sellsails, guardsmen in the Free Cities, or pirates. Įach of the islands is ruled by a princes or princess, with the three larger islands each having multiple rivals. Summer Islanders respect their elderly, and mourning customs include celebrating the dead with wine and lovemaking. Prostitution is a respectable profession, practiced even by the high-born. The most skilled and dedicated, those who would be can become respected priests and priestesses. The act of lovemaking is considered an important and even holy skill, with all islanders expected to serve for a time in temples of love. The Summer Islanders worship a score of deities, with the god and goddess of love, beauty, and fertility being the most favored. Temple of Love, as depicted by Marc Simonetti in The World of Ice & Fire Nine out of every ten islanders lives on Jhala, Omboru, or Walano, with the latter being the most populous. Their consists primarily of fruits and fish. The Common Tongue can have an amber, liquid accent when spoken by an islander. They speak the Summer Tongue and often wear capes of brightly-colored feathers when ashore. Their skin color includes nut brown, teak, ebony, and polished jet. The Summer Islanders are strong and tall, a handsome people eager to learn. The isles are also known for their beautiful birds and flowers. Apes include the " old red men" on Omboru, silver pelts on Jhala, and night stalkers on Walano. The rain forests, sandy beaches, and towering mountains of the isles are inhabited by spotted panthers, packs of lean red wolves, tribes of monkeys, and crocodiles. Near the eastern coast of Khala is Lizard Head. South of Jhala are Parrot Bay, Xon, Doquu, and the Bones. West of those two large islands are the Singing Stones, the Three Exiles, the Isle of Love, and Moluu. Between the Isle of Birds and Omboru is the Smiling Sea, and the Indigo Straits are between Omboru and Jhala. North of Walano are Stone Head and the Isle of Women, while Koj and the Isle of Birds are to the south. Jhala contains the settled valleys of Red Flower Vale and Sweet Lotus Vale, the latter of which contains the port city of Ebonhead. The cultural or religious heart of the islands seems to be Tall Trees Town, where priestesses carve histories and laws into the Talking Trees. Walano contains the settlements of Lotus Port, Last Lament, and Tall Trees Town. The Smiling Sea divides Walano and Omboru, and the Indigo Straits divide Omboru from Jhala. The three largest islands by far are (from north to south) Walano, Omboru, and Jhala, all of which are larger than the Stepstones. The islands, which number more than fifty, separate the Sunset Sea to the west from the Summer Sea to the east.

This makes a tighter twist because as the rope tries to untwist itself it holds the twist together. To make it a "3 strand twist" each of the kids would twirl around to the right (clockwise) spinning as they walk around the circle to the left (counter clockwise). If they let go of the ropes the ropes would untwist easily. If they all begin walking to the left, the ropes get twisted around and around. The kids are standing evenly spaced out on a big circle painted on the ground. To fix this clearly in your mind imagine a big hot air balloon being held down by 3 ropes that are held by three kids below. Don't worry if this doesn't make complete sense right now. When you pass it over you are essentially twisting it around the other strands in a clockwise direction. Now pass it over (not under) the other two strands so it ends up on the right side(beside strand C). Start with strand A, spin it a couple times to the left (counter-clockwise). You will keep some tension on them all the time so they do not un-twist. Hold the strands a couple inches from the root. All three strands are laid out in order, from left to right. To explain this clearly we'll call each strand by name: A, B, & C. The two opposing twist directions push against each other helping the strand twist stay together. The idea behind strand twist dreadlocks is that each strand is twisted around in one direction (to the left in this example) and then it's passed around the other strands in the other direction (to the right). (I know exactly how good it smells but you must resist.) Resist temptation to taste the Knatty Dread cream. Beyond that, extra cream provides no additional benefit. Use enough cream to ensure that the entire length of the hair gets a small amount. The dread cream should be applied to the hair when you are spinning the strand of the hair. The basic motion and principal is the same for two and three strand twists, the only thing that changes is the number of strands you are working with. After all the hair is sectioned separate a section into 2 or 3 parts depending on whether you want 2 or 3 strand twist dreads. Secure the sections with a clip as you go. Keep sections square so dreads grow round, not flat. The larger the section the thicker the dreadlocks will end up. If you are sectioning the hair first use a comb or your fingers to section. Unlike starting from braids, most people do not trim the hair that started out in the strand twist. How long does the hair need to be for 2&3 Strand Twists?Ī wide range of lengths work well for making dreads with strand twists. Because you can section the hair you have control over the size dreadlocks you'll get. Experienced locticians may just grab sections as they go instead of sectioning it ahead of time. The hair can all be sectioned and secured with bands or clips before the strand twisting to ensure that the sections come out even. One disadvantage is that while the dreadlocks are forming, strand twists are not as durable as braids. Most report that strand twists also become dreadlocks faster than braids because the hair is not held as securely. (at least IMO) As such there is no need to trim off the once strand twisted dread since it looks good after it has dreaded. Another advantage of starting dreadlocks with strand twists is that despite the strand twists being visible in the finished dread (as with braids), strand twists tend to dread smoother and the finished dreadlocks are visually more pleasing. One advantage of strand twists over braids or plats is that the strand twist are a beautiful natural style in themselves as you wait for the dreads to mature, while braids tend to be somewhat plain in comparison. The natural hair in the strand twist eventually loosens and begins to dread as well. The basic idea is that the strand twists hold the hair so that the roots can begin locking. Strand twists are used in much the same way that braids are used to start dreadlocks. Like standard dreadlocks twists, strand twists are really only ideal in natural black hair. Strand twists are less delicate than regular twists and not much more difficult to make with good instruction. The strand twist method is gaining popularity for making dreads in natural black hair. Double and triple strands twists are different but because they are executed in the same manner it makes sense to consider them as one method. Not to be confused with the twisting methods. It basically fits over the tip of the ink cartridge and into the hole where the infrared camera sits. The cap is so small you could easily lose it, I guess that is why they give you two of them. The pen cap that is NOT pictured anywhere on the website is annoying and I would only use it if I was using the pen in very dusty and dirty situations… maybe. The pen is not heavy, has a nice finish though the fit on the silver band at the midpoint of the pen is off slightly so it catches on your hand – haven’t decided if that bugs me or not. I received my echo today and have been playing with it, here are some quick initial thoughts. I asked whether they supported moving notebooks to pens and got an answer right away (much requested, not implemented at this time). It’s kind of hard to explain if you have not used the system. So, I could have 8 active Journals, and as soon as I start writing on one, the pen will identify the proper page and journal, and record the information. On the other hand, NONE of this prevents me from accessing that information on my computer, or on Livescribe online. It makes upgrading less attractive for me. If I wanted to but an Echo pen, i would not be able to move my current information from my Pulse to the Echo. Typically the only reason you would do that is if you have filled up 8 books (in the case of the Journal) and need to start a new one. The issue RDI is talking about is once you remove a notebook from the pen by archiving, it is not available on the pen anymore. Actually, you can have multiple notebooks on your pen (the Journal format I like has 8 different numbers I can use). Jat 9:05 application RDI was referring to is very cool, but not very typical. We still love the pen, but are definitely looking forward to the day when they address this issue. The pen should just be a recording/playback device. What they REALLY need is a removable flash (t-flash or something similar) chip which can be associated with the notebook…not the pen. Sure, you can still playback the audio on the computer…but it is not as convenient as just tapping the pen on a page. If you have a few of the notebooks with audio, you had better not offload any of that data from the pen, because the notebooks/audio file mappings will be lost. Tapping the pen on any pages of a Livescribe notebook will play the any audio associated with the notes from that point on. Why is this a problem? Well, one of the cool thing about this pen is you don’t need a computer for it to be useful. The BIG issue is the data CANNOT be loaded back into the pen once it has been offloaded. We know as we have been using the SmartPen for years. The paper thing is not really that big of an issue. The first inspection of LFJM was postponed by one year as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, but when it did finally take place in March 2022, the school achieved a Good rating - the highest rating given to schools on their first inspection. There are two large covered outside play areas with play equipment for younger students. Outdoor facilities include a semi-Olympic size swimming pool, two sports fields, and two gymnasiums. Located in the Al Qouz area, close to the main residential areas of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim but with easy access to the Al Khail Road, the purpose-built campus includes a 300-seat auditorium, two libraries, three laboratories, and a canteen. The school uses the Cambridge curriculum to supplement English provision and students’ achievement in lessons is good in Primaire and very good in Collège. According to the DISB inspection team, when compared to the national French curriculum standards, the attainment of students in English is excellent. The majority of students start the school as non-English speakers in Maternelle. The school opened in 2017 with just 170 students from PS to CE2.Īre you a parent, teacher or student at Lycée Français Jean Mermoz? LFJM Principal, Thomas Dentinger, planned to bring in teacher teamwork ideas such as pair-observation, morning briefings to "challenge and improve best practice at LFJM."Ĭertainly it would seem, in its fourth year of operation, LFJM has been successful in recruiting students - at the time of the school's first KHDA inspection in March 2022 (delayed one year by the Covid 19 pandemic), almost 1,000 students attended the school from Petite Section, (preKG) to 4ème (Grade 8 equivalent)) - 3ème will open in August 2022. Read WSA's Har d Hat Tour of Lycée Français Jean Mermoz here!Īs noted in WSA's Hard Hat Tour, the hope is for this school to "introduce more 'global' ideas" to the traditional French curriculum. On opening, the school limited classes per grade level to four in order to "promote the development and well-being of students." Lycée Français Jean Mermoz's foundation of study focuses on three main areas of student development: student autonomy, world citizenship, and the cultural and physical development of the child. Two other schools - the Lycée Libanais and International Concept for Education (ICE) - both largely supported by Lebanese interests and families, also offer the French curriculum, but LFJM - although accepting students from a wide range of nationalities - was clearly established to fill the gap the two original schools could not, due to simple lack of capacity. Traditionally, French families sent their children either to the Lycée Français Georges Pompidou or AFLEC - both of which were consistently full. Lycée Français Jean Mermoz (LFJM) is arguably the fifth French school to open in Dubai and the most recent. Lycée Français Jean Mermoz, located in Al Quoz 1, opened in September 2017 and offers the French Curriculum taught in French in conjunction with English and Arabic. In particular, the Son of a Gun trait adds 20% critical chance to pistols and SMGs (in addition to boosting their accuracy by 10%), and investing an additional point in it brings that up to 40%. Critical Hit: Present, though it's mainly seen with the specific traits.Critical Existence Failure: Downplayed, as wounds result in accuracy-reducing Pain, though Marine characters can use Adrenaline to nullify existing Pain and heal for half of its amount, while their Angry Motherfucker trait straight-up boosts damage in proportion to your missing HP.Cluster F-Bomb: Unless the language filter is set to "Clean" in the settings, the marine will swear basically every other word.Chunky Salsa Rule: The Nightmare update introduced this as an effect if the player deals enough damage over an enemy's max health and on the Nightmare difficulty itself, is required to permanently kill organic enemies.Chainsaw Good: Chainsaws are one of the deadliest melee weapons available in the game, capable of doing massive amounts of piercing damage.Brutal Bonus Level: Each moon contains "branches" that differ from the regular path in terms of environment and enemy spawns, and at the end of each branch is a special level filled with tough enemies and better rewards than the moon's standard levels.Either way, the extra dialogue serves to warn players that they're facing an Elite Mook. Bring It: The marine often says something to this effect when facing Exalted enemies that is, when he's not saying something along the lines of " This Is Gonna Suck".Its decent accuracy, reliable damage, and plentiful ammo will see you through a good chunk of the early game before it's replaced by a more advanced weapon. Boring, but Practical: The 9mm auto-rifle.It increases critical hit percentage with any pistol or SMG, but has a short cooldown. Boom, Headshot!: Interestingly, this is a mid-level skill that's only available to the Technician class. But he can (and does) vow to make the demons sorry that they ever heard of him. Bolivian Army Ending: After defeating the Summoner/the Harbinger and clearing Dante Station/Beyond the marine doesn't get to go home. Blood Knight: Jupiter's moon bases have been overrun by demonic forces and the marine (initially) has no idea what the hell happened, but he's clearly not disturbed in the least by the nonstop carnage.BFS: The Soulstealer, a powerful two-handed sword that gets stronger the more enemies you kill with it, and adds health with every kill.Rocket (and other) launchers are awesome weapons until an enemy closes to melee range and there isn't a wall in the right position to hit them without blasting yourself, too.Such weapons are excellent for a character that does have the relevant traits but not you. As with DRL, ADV and unique weapons are often hit by this trope if your build doesn't specialize in their weapon type. The Marine class has a downplayed version of that with Survivor, which prevents death once per level, but only if the HP amount at the start of the turn was already higher than 25 (20 at upgraded level). The Scout class's Second Wind trait saves them from death and heals them to 50%, but only once per run.Auto Doc: Medical stations allow players to heal, extract a medkit, or permanently raise their maximum health. If you take Wizard master trait as Technician you can summon a drone yourself. However, the security drones also hit harder than any grunt with the respectable firepower of a 9mm auto-rifle, while the military drones also possess better anti-armor damage with their 7.62mm ammo. Security drones are the most fragile opponents in the game, with about half HP of even the basic former grunts, with combat drones being on par with them and the military drones possessing the same 30 HP as most hellish/former CRI enemies. Attack Drone: Come in the security, combat and military varieties.
True horror needs to be rooted in our humanity. HORROR GAME DEVELOPERS NEED TO TAKE A LESSON FROM THIS GAME WHEN WANTING TO CREATE A HEIGHTENED STATE OF FEAR FOR THEIR PLAYERS. The ending kinda speed away and I am not sure I loved the conclusion, however. Overall the game wasn't completely perfect. If anything that part of the narrative added to the discomfort of the game, as it is a uncomfortable topic and contains many emotions and human behaviors that are not easily addressed and dealt with. I do not believe that they were condoning the behavior of certain characters. It was presented through different characters perspectives, and they attended to all of these in a balanced way. I am a licensed therapist and I'd like to say that the way they handled this topic in my opinion was very tactful. Again without spoiling I will attempt to address this issue. Secondly, some critics have claimed that the way they approached the taboo nature of the narrative, was done inappropriately. No over the top horror tropes and no cartoony scares. The sound, the music, the graphics, and the relationship between the main characters gives such a sense of reality, the horror seems to be rooted in our world somehow. I found myself constantly feeling watched, and peering down the empty halls expecting someone or something to arrive at any moment. I will tell you, that this game is horror, the game is very subtle, but slowly and deliberately works into your mind, causing a palpable paranoia as you wander the giant hotel. Firstly, some say it is not a horror game. Without spoiling I will attempt to speak to the various aspects of the game. I felt I had to review this game, as aspects of this game are what I have been looking for. The animation was directed by none other than veteran Tomb Raider fan Ash Kaprielov, named by various leading video game magazines as "Lara's biggest fan." As a communications professional, Kaprielov has been involved in other Tomb Raider-related projects like Replay Events’ Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary Core Design QA at Play Expo Manchester 2016 and Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel Symphony, an orchestral music album. Serving as the narrator for the video is Jonell Elliott, the voice actress of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Hopefully, this should give fans a proper and canon explanation of what happened between the two games. My three-star rating is because of the aspects that let it down. My regard for the film stems from those positive aspects. The dialog in Tomb Raider (2018) is the 4th worst dialog out of all of those movies. The story for Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa was written by Murti Schofield ( TRAOD). Tens of millions of feature-length movies have been made to date. Square Enix-owned Crystal Dynamics officially revealed that development on a new Tomb Raider game was taking place at the State of Unreal April 2022 event. The problem was, as a result of time pressure, a lot of information and scenes were cut, including what happened to Lara while she was trapped under the ruins and how the heroine escaped. While the fifth installment didn't add much to the storyline, the sixth edition titled Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness had a really good story. What exactly happened and why the need for an animated film? In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, the final scenes had Lara Croft trapped under the ruins of a temple with her fate uncertain. For those who can't make it to the screening, there's a YouTube Live Premiere scheduled on October 21. Die-hard fans know that this is the city where the franchise had its start. "I want to see that full fruition, I want to see the sassy one liners and things that I would have loved to have written. And all the the traits that you associate with Tomb Raider like tenaciousness, bravery, resourcefulness, were kind of bubbling to the surface with her," Pratchett added. Because when we wrote the reboot game, she was really on her way to becoming a tomb raider. "I like seeing her striking out on her own and really taking some joy in what she does. Rhianna Pratchett, lead writer for Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, told Eurogamer that while she's not involved with this new game, she'd like to see fewer "father issues" with Lara. It's currently unclear if this is still the plan and if it is, how the studio will go about organizing this endeavor. We could even see the story skip ahead a few years, as a more experienced Lara Croft is taking on more and more jobs.īack in January 2021 during a celebration of the franchise, Crystal Dynamics noted that the team saw a future where Lara's past and present would be brought together, where the different timelines of games could be fused into one. Needless to say, they were not disturbed, and given full possession until the young were safely reared."
